Mast Head Island, Great Barrier Reef. Beautiful Mast Head Island is located around 60km from Gladstone on the southern end of Queensland's Great Barrier Reef. This important breeding ground for turtles and seabirds is a coral cay surrounded by reef and waters rich in marine life. Self sufficient camping is allowed on the island though permits are required and the island is closed for part of each year. It's a relatively untouched island due to its remoteness and is a pure paradise.
