Bird netting over orchards. The Granite Belt region of Queensland, centred on Stanthorpe, including Applethorpe and The Summit, is a major area for stone-fruit production (plums, cherries) as well as apples.
Tens of thousands of hectares are under netting to protect the fruit from birds by day, flying foxes (the world's largest fruit bat) at night, and in the case of full netting, even against flies and bugs.
